Does Pilates help lower back pain?

Often, yes — when the work is coached, scaled, and not a series of sit-ups with better lighting. We are a studio, not a clinic. We still take backs seriously.

Can reformer Pilates help my lower back?

For many people, yes. Reformer work trains the deep core, glutes, and the muscles that share load with the lumbar spine. Springs let us unload a movement that would be too much on the floor. That is why instructors cue ribs, pelvis, and breath instead of 'ten more crunches.'

This is not a diagnosis and it is not physical therapy. If you have acute pain, radiating symptoms, or a recent injury, talk to your clinician first. Then tell us what they said. Renee Taylor works with injuries and special populations; Jeannie has 18 years of practice. We will not heroically load a back that needs quiet.

What should I tell the instructor?

Everything relevant: disc history, SI joint, postpartum timing, what flares you. We would rather hear it at the door than see it three exercises in. You will get a different spring, a shorter lever, or a skip — not a lecture.

Neck pain during abdominal work is usually a cue problem, not a moral one. Say it out loud. We fix that in the room.
